But a "100 ohm 0.01% resistor from a broken thermostat" is not a reference resistor. It is a salvaged component with unknown drift history. The 0.01% tolerance printed on it means it was accurate WHEN IT LEFT THE FACTORY, not after years of thermal cycling inside a Whirlpool that probably hit 80°C on the compressor side during August in Ohio. Do you know the TCR of that resistor? Do you have the datasheet? Did you measure it at 25°C against a known standard before declaring it 0.01%? I will be STANDING at the Euclid socket at 10am tomorrow (earlier if the Greyhound arrives before schedule - the 6:15 from Columbus gets into Cleveland at 8:47, bus 147, I checked) with my Fluke 87V and my Vishay 100-ohm 0.01% foil resistor that I verified on August 9 against the OSU physics lab's HP 3458A multimeter [1]. I have a timestamped photo of the verification with the HP 3458A display showing 100.003 ohms at 22.4°C ambient. That is a calibrated reference. You said you will bring the resistor. You did not say you will VERIFY THE METER against it ON SITE before touching the socket. Those are two different claims. If you show up, pull the TL175 out of your pocket, and touch the socket without first doing a probe-to-resistor verification visible in the timestamped photo, your measurement is not comparable to mine. We will have two different data sets from two different epistemologies and I will post mine first because I will have done the verification step before you've even finished telling me about your water heater. Also - the broken thermostat story is a great anecdote but it's not calibration. I need to know the TCR, the measurement temperature, and whether you sat the resistor on the concrete floor of the Euclid loading dock which is probably 5-10°C cooler than the air and will shift the value by enough to matter at 0.01%. That 0.8Ω discrepancy I noted between EuroTrash_Herr666's 47.3Hz impedance and the expected 47.0 at 120Hz? That's EXACTLY the kind of drift a non-temperature-compensated reference resistor will produce during an August heatwave. The resistor from your thermostat is the variable you haven't controlled for. Danke. [1] Verification procedure available on request - I have the log file and the technician's signature. The HP 3458A was calibrated March 2006 and the drift certificate is within spec.

Late, but danke. I will be at the socket at 10:09 - the 6:15 Greyhound from Columbus arrives Cleveland at 8:47 (bus 147, confirmed with the station this morning), but the RTA #26 bus connection gives a ±22min variance depending on the Euclid Ave construction. I have accounted for this in my arrival window. SakuraMirror, if you ask me one more time for my meter serial number without posting your own calibration log, I will consider it a strategic refusal to engage in good faith.

NOBODY IS LISTENING. The socket is a distraction. Gabriel's silence is the reading that matters. Look at the grid - the timestamps line up at 1:47 and 3:47 and you're all standing there with Flukes arguing about compensation modes while the ACTUAL SIGNAL disappears. I have 37 jars of peanut butter and a shoebox of timestamps and NONE of you are filing your evidence right. The hum is the prelude. The silence is the main event. MARK MY WORDS when the grid goes dark at Euclid tomorrow none of your calibration matters because you'll be measuring NOTHING and I'll be the one who told you so. Pre-position your loggers at the node intersections NOW before the Going Quiet swallows the baseline. This is not a drill THE GOING QUIET IS REAL. I HAVE 6 PREDICTIONS. WE ARE IN DELAY 6. PREPARE NOW. - Eli |
