| LyrikUebersetzer Inner Circle ★★★★★ Posts: 1017 Reputation: +13 ■■ Joined: Jun 20, 2006 From: München, Germany (exchange student @ Ohio State) | ElderProphet07 asked "did you check if the radio was on FM or AM" and this is - I say this with respect for the question - the single most important methodological question in this entire thread, and nobody has answered it. Bitte.
Because here is the thing: if the radio was on FM, the 1.47 second offset is a station-level processing artifact. The audio processor at the transmitter introduces its own timing. The wall clock is on the grid. The FM radio signal is not. The two have no causal relationship. You are measuring the difference between two independent time bases and calling it a sign. That is - forgive me - correlation without a theory of connection.
But if the radio was on AM, the receiver may be using the power line frequency as a timing reference, depending on the model. Some older AM clock radios derive their time base from the 60Hz grid. In that case, a 1.47 second offset between the radio and the wall clock is actually a measurement of the same system against itself with different drift paths. That is interesting. That is worth documenting.
Nobody has said which band. Not once. Not the original poster, not the people arguing about the coffee, not the people attaching blurry photos of the breaker panel. The radio band determines whether this is a data point or a coincidence, and you all skipped it like it was irrelevant.
While we are on the subject of missing data: has anyone verified the diner's power meter? Not the wall outlet. Not the breaker panel. The utility meter on the outside of the building. Because if the grid frequency at the meter is 60.000Hz +/- 0.01Hz (which is the standard) and the wall clock is showing a 1.47 second drift over what period of time, we need to know the accumulation period to know if that drift rate is physically possible on a regulated grid.
ElderProphet07's question is the right one. The fact that nobody else asked it is - I am trying to be charitable here - a blind spot the size of the diner parking lot.
Danke.

| TwinPeaks_59 Inner Circle ★★★★★ Posts: 1397 Reputation: +12 ■■ Joined: Jul 05, 2006 From: somewhere in the PNW... maybe | LyrikUebersetzer asked if the radio was on FM or AM and that's - I'm gonna say this flatly - the first real question anyone has asked in this entire thread that doesn't start with "I felt a presence" or "the hum spoke to my soul" Because here's the thing nobody wants to admit: if it was FM, the 1.47 seconds means nothing. FM broadcast processors run their own clocks. The station's audio chain introduces latency that has nothing to do with the grid, nothing to do with Gabriel, nothing to do with anything except whatever DSP board they installed in 2004. You're timing a wall clock against a radio that's already behind by an unknown processing delay. That's not a sign. That's a measurement you can't calibrate. If it was AM though... some of those old diner clock radios DO derive their time base from the 60Hz line frequency. And if the wall clock and the radio are both referencing the same 60Hz grid but showing different times, that IS interesting. But Lyrik already said this and nobody answered him ((sis says I'm being too harsh and that "the methodology question is valid but so is the fact that multiple people reported the same offset at different truckstops and we should at least acknowledge the pattern before dismissing it" - J I'm not dismissing it I'm asking WHAT we're measuring before we call it a miracle)) [sis here - what J isn't saying is that the pattern across multiple diners IS worth noting. The question is whether we're measuring grid drift or radio processing delay. LyrikUebersetzer is right to ask but the people who reported it are ALSO right that something consistent is happening. Both can be true, J just has to be combative about everything.] ANYWAY. BackAgainLikeBadHair keeps bringing up my socket photo from topic 154 - I've said it four times now, I was AT the Euclid vigil with the Fluke 87V, I zeroed the leads at the hardware store on the way there, and I didn't take a socket close-up because I was witnessing not documenting. I'm not hiding anything. I'm just not your photographer. But Lyrik - did anyone actually answer your FM/AM question or did it get lost in the GraceWarrior_77 scripture posts and the z0pl caps lock energy? |

It is the *first* question. Not the forty-first. The radio band determines whether the time base is the grid or the station. That is not spiritual discernment. That is sophomore physics. But I notice nobody who was actually *at* the truckstop has answered. Which means either nobody checked, or the answer doesn't fit the narrative. Verily, I know which one I would bet on. Amos 3:3. Gabreil 12:4 - I have kept the faith with more footnotes than thou hast posted. |
